Description

The Orion Coil Driver is a quality high performance spark generator designed for basic coils without
built-in drivers. The Mercury3 ECU can drive coils with built in drivers directly but you have to use the
external Orion coil driver for basic coils. Orion2 can do up to 6 Basic coil drivers but in some cases, it
is better to use the external coil driver with the positive drivers. This may free up more negative drivers
for other tasks.
This driver comes in 2×2, 4×4 and 6×6 driver configuration. This means each driver has a trigger signal.
If you have for example a 4 cylinder with 4 basic coils you will require the 4×4 driver. The Orion coil
driver may be configured for wasted spark which means you use only 2 pos drivers from the ECU and
double them up for 4 basic coil outputs. This is where you save on drivers. See the wiring diagrams on
these connections.
The Orion coil drivers use a normal HV Drivers that can drive the primary up to 500 Volts creating a 50
Kilo Volt output on most coils. To protect the drivers from overheating, ensure that charge times are set
below the coils maximum current usually 5.5 amp. See the charge time section in the manuals.
